Improve Successful Communication

It is so hard to believe we are almost two-thirds of the way through our school year! I know we don’t say it enough, but we do want to let you know that we appreciate the trust you have placed in us to care for your most precious little ones. We consider it a privilege to partner with you in the early education of your child. Hopefully, you have had an opportunity to review your child’s evaluation. I want to remind you again that the evaluations are a reflection of what our teachers observe in their classroom interaction with your child. The evaluation process should not be considered as an indication of your child’s intelligence. It is merely a tool to help you understand your child’s development and growth in school based on the objectives of our program.

As I reviewed the evaluations, I realized that while we are so privileged to have many different cultures represented at our school, many of our children still need some extra help in acquiring English language skills. Several teachers had noted their concern that some of their children were not able to communicate their knowledge and abilities in a particular area. More often than not it was because the child’s English skills were not adequate to do so. In our October newsletter, we strongly encouraged parents to assist children to develop their ability to speak and understand English. Reading out loud to your child is one very successful way to help him/her acquire stronger language skills. Then, ask your child to use English to tell you about the story you just read. This will help him/her learn to mentally process in English. If you would like other helpful ideas for building stronger English skills for your little one, please do not hesitate to stop by my office and talk to me, or speak with your child’s teacher.

Please remember…we want your children to keep the beautiful language of their heritage while continuing their success in the mastery of English. (If your child is in our Toddlers-3 year old program you should expect to receive their evaluation by the end of the month.)
